In a solar Rankine cycle, thermal energy from the sun is utilized by means of a solar collector which acts as an evaporator to heat the working fluid of the Rankine cycle either directly, usually called direct vapor generation (DVG), or indirectly using a heat transfer fluid (HTF).

What is Rank®? Rank® equipment is based on organic Rankine cycle (ORC) technology. It allows the combined electrical energy and useful heat production using a low-temperature heat source, with the associated economic and environmental benefits.

ORC's can recover heat from waste streams at lower temperatures than is possible with conventional steam Rankine systems, and because ORCs operate at relatively low pressure, they can operate unattended and fully automated in most locations.

The Rankine cycle of the system utilizes solar collectors to convert CO2 into high-temperature supercritical state, used to drive a turbine and produce electrical power. The cycle also recovers thermal energy, which can be used for absorption refrigerator, air conditioning, hot water supply so on for a building.
