Organic Rankine Cycles (ORC) are systems that can effectively recover low-grade heat for electric power generation. For ORC to be a viable technology, it should operate safely and efficiently under variable operating conditions due to exogenous and operating specifications changes.

Organic Rankine Cycle Solutions for Power Generation with Turbogenerators. The ORC (Organic Rankine Cycle) system is based on an innovative closed thermodynamic cycle for the flexible and distributed production of electric and thermal power.

Additionally, ORCs eliminate the need for full-time plant operators because they operate at lower pressures and do not need water chemistry maintenance. However, working fluid cost, decomposition, temperature limits are an organic Rankine cycle's primary disadvantages.

This process was developed in 1859 by Scottish engineer William J.M. Rankine. This is a thermodynamic cycle which converts heat into mechanical energy—which usually gets transformed into electricity by electrical generation. Figure 1. A simple schematic with components for the Rankine Cycle.
