Solar energy, much like wind, is one of the most sustainable energy sources currently available. In fact, given its modular and scalable nature — where it can be utilized as part of massive solar fields or mounted on individual homes — it may be the most practical form of sustainable energy in use today.

To achieve this goal, which was enshrined at COP26 in Glasgow, our main tool is the energy transition, i.e., the shift from an energy mix based on fossil fuels to one that produces very limited, if not zero, carbon emissions, based on renewable energy sources.

Renewable energy is energy that comes from a source that won't run out. They are natural and self-replenishing, and usually have a low- or zero-carbon footprint. Examples of renewable energy sources include wind power, solar power, bioenergy (organic matter burned as a fuel) and hydroelectric, including tidal energy.

The energy transition is fundamental to achieving various Sustainable Development Goals. This pathway encompasses four SDG indicators on access to energy, clean and renewable energy, and energy efficiency.
