Cement factories, electric thermal power plants, steel factories etc where an exhaust energy is lost. In the field of renewables can be also cited: Geothermal power plant: ORC can be applied to the exhaust of Geothermal plants with output temperatures from 100ºC to 400º C.

The Rankine cycle of the system utilizes solar collectors to convert CO2 into high-temperature supercritical state, used to drive a turbine and produce electrical power. The cycle also recovers thermal energy, which can be used for absorption refrigerator, air conditioning, hot water supply so on for a building.

It can be applied to heat and power plants (for example a small scale cogeneration plant on a domestic water heater), or to industrial and farming processes such as organic products fermentation, hot exhausts from ovens or furnaces (e.g. lime and cement kilns), flue-gas condensation, exhaust gases from vehicles, ...

The Rankine cycle or Rankine Vapor Cycle is the process widely used by power plants such as coal-fired power plants or nuclear reactors. In this mechanism, a fuel is used to produce heat within a boiler, converting water into steam which then expands through a turbine producing useful work.

ORC: How it works The provider of the heat can be natural, such as in the case of geothermal energy, or waste heat from any number of industrial waste heat sources. In this way, the ORC design makes it possible to sustainably take advantage of existing heat energy that would otherwise be lost into the atmosphere.
